Clone a Competition

Have a new season for an existing Competition?  Stay organized and save time by Cloning your Competition, which will bring Competition and Schedule settings, assignors, payors, game fees, and other items into your new Competition.  Edit any item as needed to update for your new season.  Remember to move your old Competition into the archive to keep your active list tidy and relevant.

1. This tutorial shows how to Clone a Competition.

Cloning a Competition brings Competition and Schedule settings, assignor, payor, game fee settings, and other items into a new Competition where matches are then added.

2. Cloning a Competition offers a convenient way to preserve multiple settings for the current year or season so that Competitions from previous years or seasons can be archived.

3. To start, click Competitions

4. Let's use the Competition MLS NEXT Cup 2024 as our example.

Click the magnifying glass to select the Competition that will be cloned.

5. Click Clone this Competition

6. Type in the name of your new Competition. This name must be different than all other Competition names within the account. In this example, we will name the new Competition MLS NEXT Cup 2025.

Click Continue when finished.

7. Click Continue to confirm.

8. The Competition settings have been cloned into the new Competition. You can adjust these settings by editing the Competition Record.

9. The Schedule names and settings have been cloned into the new Competition.

10. The new Competition is Shared with the same people and with the same type. Make edits if needed.

11. Assignors and their settings have been cloned into the new Competition.

Note: a new assignor settings interface will be deployed on February 11, 2025. Existing settings will migrate automatically. A separate tutorial will review this new interface.

12. Payors and Game Fees have been cloned into the new Competition.

If a Payor needs to be changed, click Payor Modification Request.

Game Fees can be edited if necessary.

13. Let's now import the new matches.

Click Import Matches (Excel).

14. It is very important that the Schedule names within the Excel file are an EXACT MATCH to the Schedule names in the Cloned Competition.

If they do not match exactly, the system will create new schedules with no settings within this Competition.

15. Let's now choose the Excel file with the 2025 matches. A Competition column is not needed in the Excel file since we are importing from within the Competition.

16. If a Competition column is included in the Excel file, it must be an EXACT MATCH to the Competition name.

17. For this example, we are importing the Excel file containing MLS NEXT Cup 2025 matches.

18. Click Open

19. Click Sport

20. Click the relevant option from the dropdown menu.

22. Click Auto Map Columns

23. It is good practice to confirm the Competition name (if included as a column) and the Schedule names are EXACT MATCHES as we just described.

24. Click Mapping Completed

25. Click Mapping Completed again to confirm.

26. For this tutorial, let's skip ahead to confirming Sites and Fields to review these steps and see convenient updates.

27. To map a Site, click the name of the location as it is called within the Excel file.

28. The name populates on the right side of the page. Click Map To Site to expand the dropdown and search for the site within the master database.

You can also do a Site Search from the lower region and select the site from there.

29. Type the name or part of the name in Map To Site to find the corresponding site from the master database and select it.

30. Click Save this Mapping after selecting the corresponding site.

If you do not see your site and cannot create a new one, contact your administrator or submit a ticket here.

31. Click Site Mapping Completed after all sites have been mapped.

32. Click Site Mapping Completed again to confirm this action.

33. Each site has a list of verified field names. It is important to review unverified field names so officials receive accurate information.

Click the plus sign next to the unverified field name that was brought in from the Excel file.

34. The field name from Excel contains a typo and lists 122 instead of 12. Let's correct that field name now.

35. Click the check mark next to the verified field name, which is listed within the Master Database.

36. The corrected field name is populated above the green button. Click Save Corrected Field Name.

37. Click Save Corrected Field Name again to confirm this action.

38. Repeat these steps for all unverified field names. Field 40 should actually be Field 4.

39. Click the check mark next to the correct field name.

42. In this example, the Excel file lists STADIUM in all caps.

43. However, the correct field name is formatted differently. Click the check mark next to the correct format of the field name.

44. Click Save Corrected Field Name

45. Click Save Corrected Field Name again to confirm.

46. When all field names have been verified, click Schedules to continue the import process.

Let's skip ahead to the completion of the import.

47. Remember to confirm that the Schedule names from the Excel file are an EXACT MATCH to the schedule names that are in the new Competition.

48. Our matches have now been imported. Click Competitions to return to the list.

49. Click the magnifying glass to see what has been imported and make any needed adjustments.

50. Let's confirm the payors and game fees are correct for these 2025 matches.

Click Payors.

51. If the game fees have changed, click the edit icon to be brought to the grid.

52. Click Edit

53. Click inside the cell to edit the game fee.

54. Update the game fee as needed

55. Click Save when finished.

56. To adjust fees for other schedules, click the relevant schedule. The "eye" icon shows you which schedule you are currently viewing.

57. Repeat the previous steps to adjust game fees as needed within each schedule.

58. Click Save when finished.

59. When all game fees have been updated, click cancel.

60. If a Payor needs to change but you lack this permission, make a Payor Modification Request and it will be done for you.

61. Click cancel when finished to return to the list of Competitions. We are now ready to archive the old 2024 Competition.

62. Click the magnifying glass next to the Competition to be archived.

63. Click Move to Archive

64. Click Move to Archive again to confirm this action.

65. The 2024 Competition has now been moved to the archive and the new 2025 Competition remains in the active list of Competitions.
